Jake Paul attracted ridicule when he told fans he was moving into the professional boxing circuit. The American has made millions of dollars as a content creator but believed he had the skills and desire to make it as a prize fighter. Despite concerns over his safety, Paul’s loyal fans followed him into the noble art. They watched on as he made a successful debut at Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami back in January 2020. Paul fought fellow debutant Ali Eson Gib that night, scoring a first-round stoppage win.

Jake adjusted to life as a paid fighter well and quickly reeled off a list of knockout wins over famous names from the world of Mixed Martial Arts. He dismantled Nate Robinson inside two rounds at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and made it three on the bounce with a quickfire TKO win against Ben Askren at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta. Jake quickly moved through the ranks, and as his level of opponent improved, so too did his performance. The 27-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio, brings a 10-1-0 record as a professional fighter with seven knockouts, and he’s ranked inside the top 100 fighters in the world in his weight division.

The first and only defeat on Paul’s 11-fight CV came against Englishman Tommy Fury over eight rounds at the Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia. Paul vs. Fury was a close match that traveled the eight-round distance before being settled by the scoring judges. One judge tallied the fight 75-74 in Paul’s favor, but the other two went 76-73 for Fury, allowing the Brit to edge the decision. 

It was a setback for Paul as he suffered his first career loss, which came against the most experienced boxer he had faced. Fans and critics wanted to know how “The Problem Child” would respond. Paul replied with four wins on the bounce, including stoppage victories in each of his last three. He’s now ready to face Mike Tyson.

A Boxing Legend Returns

“Iron” Mike Tyson made his professional boxing debut way back in 1985 with a first-round knockout win over Hector Merced in Albany. What followed was one of the most amazing, emotional, and unique journeys in professional sports. Mike exploded through the ranks to become the world heavyweight champion and one of the highest-paid fighters of his time. He appeared on TV, in movies, on the cover of video games, and in several magazines as he blazed a trail of destruction through boxing.

Tyson’s professional boxing record ended with 50 wins against six defeats, 44 of which came inside the distance. His last win was a first-round KO over Clifford Etienne in Memphis, but he was then stopped by Danny Williams and Kevin McBride, and his fighting career ended in disappointment. It became obvious he could no longer cope physically or mentally with the demands of heavyweight boxing, and he hung up his gloves in 2005. Few expected to see Mike back inside a boxing ring.

Although there are more than a few critics of his return, with many experts claiming it’s dangerous for Tyson to be taking headknocks at the age of 58, the great man appears to be in excellent shape and still carries his trademark power.
