Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach: Betting Odds, Predictions and Fight Preview

February was a massive month of professional boxing with some memorable nights, not least last weekend’s card from Saudi Arabia. Congratulations if you followed the advice of this column and backed Dmitrii Bivol to get his revenge and claim a points victory over Artur Beterbiev. Bivol made the improvements required to level the scores at one win each, and he’s likely to finish the job in a trilogy with his countryman later this year.

Looking ahead to this weekend, March opens with an exciting program of professional boxing in New York. Gervonta Davis makes his eagerly anticipated return to the ring when taking on Lamont Roach in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn provides the backdrop for the event created by Tom Brown for TGB Promotions.

Davis is the fans favorite, fighting to extend his unbeaten record. Roach is the betting underdog hoping to upset the odds and fire himself up the rankings. Which fighter will get their wish in Brooklyn? World Sports Network readers benefit from the experience and expertise of former professional boxer and respected sports betting writer Frankie Monkhouse, who offers his preview and predictions. Keep reading for the latest form, stats, betting odds, and the standout promotions.

Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Odds Predictions

Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Odds

Gervonta Davis is rarely in a dull fight, but Saturday promises to be extra special. The fighter known and respected as ‘Tank’ has been out of the ring since June, meaning he’s determined to make up for lost time. Will he get his wish?

Davis is expected to defeat Lamont and score a 31st victory, but he must also put on a show, proving he remains a major player in the division and one of the sport’s top attractions. Deal with Saturday’s opponent without too much fuss, and it will nudge Gervonta back to the big names and the major titles. Lose, and he’ll go tumbling down the ranks.

The pre-fight betting odds may suggest Lamont Reach is in New York simply to make up the numbers and provide another victim for his opponent’s star-studded CV. As anyone with even the most basic knowledge of boxing already knows, anything can happen in the fight game. Roach is just one well-timed punch away from inflicting a first career defeat on his high-earning opponent and changing the direction of his own career overnight.

Will you follow the betting traders and back the favorite to get the job done, or do you prefer to support the underdog, hoping to score at bigger odds? Betting on boxing is a great way to make things even more exciting. Do your research, and you could have two reasons to cheer: one for your favorite fighter and another for the profit earned.

The odds displayed in the table above are correct at the time of publishing. Please note boxing betting odds are subject to change.

Tank Aims for 31 Straight Wins

Gervonta Davis is one of the biggest names in boxing. Since debuting in 2013 with a first-round TKO win, Tank has blasted his way through the ranks of several popular weight divisions, from super featherweight to light welterweight. The American has fought 30 times and collected 30 wins. Impressive, but it gets even better for lovers of Team Davis. The 30-year-old from Baltimore has won 28 of his bouts by stoppage, resulting in a 93% KO average. Is he about to add another name to his hit list?

We last saw Davis in action when beating Frank Martin at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, in the summer. It was a bout Tank was expected to win, and he had no trouble living up to the hype, ending his opponent’s challenge inside eight rounds. Davis was made to work that night, and the scorecards were close, but the winner’s strength made the difference. If he can’t out-box a rival, Gervonta knows he always has the power to swing a fight in his favor.

That win over Martin was Tank’s fourth stoppage on the bounce after going the distance with Isaac Cruz in Los Angeles near the end of 2021. Since that strong points win at the Staples Center, Davis took out Rolando Romero in six, Hector Luis Garcia in nine, and Ryan Garcia in seven. Will Davis bank another win? It’s likely, but his moneyline odds will force backers into the specials. Thankfully, there are lots of interesting markets to choose from ahead of Davis vs Roach.

Roach Unbeaten Since 2019

He may travel as a no-hoper with the leading sportsbooks in the United States, but Lamont Roach will duck between the ropes on fight night, ready to roll the dice. He has nothing to lose. Suffer defeat and he’ll learn from the experience after sharing a ring with one of the best fighters in the world at any weight. Lamont will also boost his bank balance considerably. But win, and he will become the first man to defeat Tank, moving him into contention for more enormous fixtures and life-changing prizes.

Roach brings a professional boxing record showing 25 wins against one defeat and a draw. The level finish came against Orlando Cruz in Puerto Rico back in 2018. The only defeat on Roach’s card was put there by Jamel Herring over 12 rounds in Fresno just over five years ago. Since then, Lamont has fought six and won six, including three stoppages. A 40% knockout average ensures no one will take Roach lightly this weekend.

We last saw Roach in action when stopping Feargal McCrory inside eight rounds of a bout scheduled for 12 in Washington back in June. Roach had his opponent down in rounds three and four before forcing the stoppage in the eighth. Saturday represents a huge leap up in class, but Lamont is ready to take his chances.

Davis vs. Roach Prediction

I expect Tank Davis to win on Saturday and get the job done in the kind of style we’ve come to expect from a ruthless and relentless champion. He’ll take his time and edge into the contest before scoring a KO/TKO win in the second half of the bout. Back Davis in rounds 7-12 from the round group betting market.
