The title for WBC interim super middleweight is set this Saturday in the main fight of the evening in Las Vegas between David Benavidez (26-0; 23 KOs ) and Caleb Plant (22-1; 13-0 KOs).

The fight will be held at the world-famous MGM Grand Garden Arena. These two fighters are two of the sport of boxing’s most underrated competitors who like to win by different measures. Both Benavidez and Plant are operating for the opportunity to make themselves among the most consistent and well-known boxers in the sport.

For Benavidez, he is fighting for a chance to continue his comeback after a series of out-of-ring mishaps. Part of this included him testing positive for cocaine in 2018 and then missing a certain weight requirement for a major event in 2020.

Plant is looking to rebound after losing the first undisputed IBF super middleweight title in boxing history to Canelo Alvarez on Nov. 6, 2021. Plant lost to Alvarez through TKO in the 11th round, also at the MGM Grand Arena.

Benavidez and Plant aren’t focused on establishing titles, they are looking to take down a heated rivalry that had been created in 2018. Benavidez’s training crew confronted Plant in a gym outside of Las Vegas for a personal matter which Plant took serious offense to. Plant and his training staff got into an altercation with Benavidez’s crew.

Since then, they have jabbed at each other through interviews and social media. This Saturday will be a chance for the personal feud to be settled in the ring on one of the biggest stages in the sport.

David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant Predictions

When the bell rings, the gloves are off, metaphorically. Benavidez is a fighter that violently looks to take out his rage for the big hit as indicated by his 23 knockouts. Some of his most recent fights have a clear example of quickly he can get some of his biggest knockouts. His most recent win came against David Lemieux in round three of the May 21st, 2021 in Glendale, Arizona. This was the fight that earned him the WBC interim super middleweight title.

The fight against Kyrone Davis on Nov. 13, 2021, lasted seven rounds. Benavidez went on a rampage in 2019 by knocking out J’Leon Love in round two on Mar. 16 and knocking out Anthony Dirrell in round nine on Sept. 28th, for his second WBC super middleweight title.

Benavidez has the reputation of being a cold, established fighter in the ring and making life difficult for his opponent. The fact that his next opponent will be Plant is just enough motivation to keep that blood-drunk mentality going.

While Benavidez is a boxer that goes for the big hits, Plant utilizes a different format to get his wins. Plant is a patient, crafty and calm-minded fighter that waits out his opponent's fatigue and goes for some easy, but effective hits. He is a solid thinker moving around and waits for his opportunity to strike.

Since 2019, Plant has participated in championship-level events with his biggest being against Alvarez. Plant’s most recent fight lasted nine rounds in a TKO win over Anthony Dirrell on Oct. 15, 2022, at Barclays Center in New York. From August 2016 to Jan 30, 2021, the fight before the big one versus Alvarez, Plant knocked his seven of his eight opponents in the 10th or 12th round. The one exception was in the third round of the win over Mike Lee on Jul. 20th, 2019.

Plant’s patience is an asset to possess as he can find the best opportunities to go for the devastating big hits that will leave an impact throughout the rounds and even the match. Plant has a violent streak at times in his matches and the fight versus Benavidez will certainly draw it out of him.

This is a fight where the winner could be decided based on sheer brutality through a big knockout or it could be a long match that draws an unexpected decision. The last factor is the least likely scenario as these fighters are going for blood. Benavidez has a chance to unleash a violent string of punches on an opponent he despises. Plant has a chance to patiently wait for his opponent to show any sign of witness for a big critical hit. Something has to give for this matchup in the ring as it can go any way possible in this huge matchup to determine the WBC interim super middleweight title.
