Welcome to February, the start of a huge month for professional boxing. Followers of the noble art have some exciting events and fights on the calendar in the coming weeks, starting with an excellent show in Las Vegas this weekend. Brandon Figueroa faces Stephen Fulton with the WBC world featherweight title on the line. You can follow the action live on Amazon Prime Video across the United States and beyond.

Figueroa versus Fulton is just one fight on a star-studded show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday evening. Other attractions include David Benavidez vs. David Morrell at light heavyweight over 12 rounds, and Isaac Cruz meets Angel Fierro over 10 rounds in the super lightweight division. Figueroa vs Fulton promises to be a thrilling contest and could shape the future of the featherweight division. The winner of Saturday’s showdown will propel themselves toward the other top names in the division, paving the way for money-spinning bouts and unification fights later this year. Will Figueroa win the belt after securing the WBC interim title? Is he about to get his hands on the championship proper? Betting traders certainly think so and the top bookmakers offer odds of -220 on the Texan stretching his winning record.

Philadelphia’s Stephen Fulton enters as the underdog with bookmakers from Las Vegas to London, but there’s little between the two fighters in a betting market that’s proving to be every bit as interesting and unpredictable as the fight. Can Fulton upset the odds to snag the win in Vegas, taking the title back to Pennsylvania? He brings a fantastic record and is sure to be popular in the betting, especially with players looking for the value. Cool Boy Steph dreams of scoring the biggest win of his career so far, and you can back the underdog at odds of +170.

Heartbreaker Aiming for a Fourth Win

Brandon Figueroa will step into the ring on fight night with a professional boxing record detailing 25 wins against one defeat and a single draw, with 19 victories scored inside the distance and that spare loss suffered on the scorecards. The only blot on his copybook came against Saturday’s opponent when the pair met back in November 2021 at the Parc Theatre in Vegas. Figuroa lost on a majority decision that evening, with the judges returning scores of 116-112 twice in Fulton’s favor, the third scoring the fight a 114-114 draw.

Since losing to Fulton by a narrow margin more than three years ago, Brandon has fought three times and scored three wins. He bounced back to form with an impressive sixth-round stoppage win over Carlos Castro and then beat Mark Magsayo on points. We last saw Figueroa in action in May of last year when he finished Jessie Magdaleno at this venue, treating fans to a punch-perfect performance. He’s in great form, but Brandon knows he must be at his best to get revenge.

Cool Boy Holds the Bragging Rights

Stephen Fulton brings a 22-1-0 record into this fight. When taking a closer look at his CV, we notice Cool Boy Steph has scored eight knockout wins and suffered his only career defeat by KO/TKO. The 30-year-old orthodox boxer is currently ranked number three in the United States at the weight and number five in the world, a list topped by his opponent, with Angelo Leo currently best of the rest. A big win on Saturday would help Fulton improve those numbers and move up the rankings.

The one defeat on his card came against Naoya Inoue inside eight rounds in Japan in the summer of 2023. Fulton was the underdog in that fight and came up short against one of the hottest fighters on the planet and a pound-for-pound star. There’s no shame in losing to Inoue, especially in Japan, and Fulton recovered to win his big comeback. He was last seen in a professional boxing ring beating Carlos Castro in this city on a split decision over ten rounds. Team Fulton knows much better is required this weekend if Cool Boy is to land a 23rd win in 24 professional bouts.

Expect a Long Night in Vegas

Figueroa and Fulton met just over three years ago, and there was very little between the rivals on that occasion, with Fulton edging it on the scorecards. I expect a similar story on Saturday, with the contest going long into the night and testing the three scoring judges sat at ringside. But I predict the scorers will switch allegiances and pick Figueroa, helping the Texan get level, set the record straight, and confirm himself as the number-one fighter in the featherweight division. Revenge over Fulton would set Figueroa on an exciting path.

Two of Brandon’s last three fights have ended inside the distance, but I expect him to take his time, build a lead on the scorecards, impress the judges, and box his way to a points win. There was a strong argument for Figueroa doing enough to win the last fight with Fulton, but that narrow defeat will only make him more determined to get it right this time. A defeat would knock Brandon’s career off-course, but we’re with the interim champion.
