Wyoming Partners with Spectrum Gaming to Assess Online Gambling Market

Gamblers in the Cowboy State may soon be able to play their favorite casino games on the go.

Wyoming has entered into a contract with Spectrum Gaming Group to assess the potential for a legal online casino market. A 2024 appropriations bill opened the door for legalizing the industry but requires the Wyoming Gaming Commission (WGC) to conduct a statewide study before that can happen.

Spectrum Gaming will study the market in September and October before delivering its report in November. While online casinos are illegal in the state, Spectrum will assess data from retail casino gambling, skill-based amusement games, horse racing, and sports betting. The group will focus on how those industries have grown, their availability, safety, and more to determine what a legal online casino industry would look like.

Spectrum Gaming Group is a well-established consulting agency that deals with the regulation and finances of gambling markets worldwide. In addition to helping project what a legal online casino would look like, the group will also identify any potential loopholes that could be exploited and help fix them before a possible launch.

Wyoming Sports Betting Market Continues to Grow

The WGC recently released the sports betting revenue numbers for August, and it showed the market is still growing. The state had a handle of 12.2 million in August, a 16.6% increase from the month before. That number was up 25.2% compared to August 2023, showing significant growth.

One reason for the growth is the launch of Fanatics Sportsbooks in the state, which went live a few months ago. That gives Wyoming five operators, including BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel

DraftKings led the way in September, with a handle of $6.6 million. FanDuel was second at 3.2 million. Wyoming received a total of $116,181 in tax revenue for the month.
