BetMGM celebrated the launch of the legal mobile sports betting industry in Massachusetts by announcing a new partnership with the Boston Red Sox. BetMGM is one of the leaders in sports betting and iGaming and will be the first to sign a deal with a sports team in the Old Bay State. Massachusetts recently passed legislation legalizing mobile sports betting in the state, which went live on March 10.
The deal was a massive win for BetMGM, which was already among the top mobile sportsbooks in the country. It represents an early foothold in the newest sports betting frontier and great national publicity, as the Red Sox fanbase is one of the largest in sports.
This deal is not the first between the Red Sox and MGM, as MGM Springfield was already the official resort partner of the team. The hotel has a retail BetMGM sportsbook, but this new partnership will allow their mobile sportsbook throughout the state.
With the deal, BetMGM signage will be added to Fenway Park, including the famous Green Monster wall in left field. In addition to the signage, BetMGM will have a dedicated suite at Fenway Park. They will also offer fan VIP experiences, such as attending batting practice, meeting players, throwing the ceremonial first pitch, and premium seating.
While BetMGM will bring plenty of new benefits for fans, safety was a big reason for the Red Sox to make them their official sports betting partner.
“Given our strong relationship with MGM Resorts, BetMGM was the clear choice to become the first sports betting partner of the club," Executive VP of Partnership for the Boston Red Sox, Troup Parkinson, said, "We look forward to them offering sports betting opportunities to our fans in a safe and responsible matter.”
BetMGM echoed Parkinson’s sentiment and has shown they are dedicated to providing responsible gaming education. They will provide users with various information and tools to help them safely and responsibly manage their sports betting. One of those tools includes its award-winning GameSense program. GameSense integrates with the BetMGM mobile sportsbook app and provides players with information on responsible gambling and access to live specialists who can help.
MGM Resorts and BetMGM are also partnered with the American Gaming Association, which is responsible for a public service campaign to educate Americans on responsible sports betting. They will use that partnership to share the AGA’s message and educate all fans.
Massachusetts officially joined the growing states to allow mobile sports betting on March 10. The initiative was set into motion after Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill allowing sports betting at the end of 2022. Retail sportsbooks were allowed to go live on January 31, 2023, but mobile sports betting was on hold until March.
The new law allows sports betting on all pro sports and college teams based outside of Massachusetts. All bettors in the Bay State must be at least 21 years old and be physically located within the state borders when placing bets.
Currently, Bet MGM is one of six mobile sportsbooks that are live in the state. The list includes BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, Barstool, Caesars, and WynnBet. Those are some of the biggest names in mobile sports betting, making BetMGM’s new partnership all the more valuable.
